Starlight Symphony Movement One: Deleted Scene

The following is a scene in my first novel which I may consider removing due to its lack of relevance and importance and because of its no further elaboration to the rest of the story’s resolution.

Enjoy!

Unbeknownst to the two fugitives, far below, there were many who had awoken to the sound of engines roaring. The multitude of unsettling crashing noises and an explosion like a fire-cracker, had not fallen on deaf ears.

Some people stepped out of their houses or places of work down on the streets, to hear what was going on. Some who were close stepped outside to see a small cruiser ship duck and weave between intersections and above the crevices of the streets and roads.

It just so happened that several students, who were on their way to the Academy that morning, had been walking on the footpath.

One of the students, was the illustrious Edward Bernhardt.

Or to some, notorious.

He wasted no time resting after the incident at the Colosseum. His black and green, high collared coat was of a tight fabric that sat square and rigid over his shoulders.

His sleek black hair reeked of wax, combed back behind his ears. His sharp eyes stared to the horizon like an unamused fox. He turned his white lips in a firm grimace, suppressing what he might regret saying to whoever was unfortunate to cross his path. He marched onward with buckled, capped boots loudly tapping the concrete.

His rapier hung like a golden viper following him by the hip, he strangled it until the metal was warm.

A nudge by one of his associates pricked up his vulpine ears. 'Hey Ed, check that out man...'. Edward followed the pointing finger to see the ship pass directly over their heads.

He grumbled with an indifferent tone. 'What about it?'.

'That thing's moving pretty fast, what’s it doing here?’.

Edward made no reply, but all three men were met with the immediate, drowning roar of three fighters tearing down the street. One after the other, the sound of each of them zipped overhead. A gust of wind blew down on them as well as everyone else who had stepped outside.

Some were in fear of the hullabaloo, before some murmured as they recognised Bernhardt walking by. Some couldn’t help but shiver, their guts shrinking.

Edward however, barely flinched as he crossed his arms, a dark stare in his eyes. 'Look, I don't know nor do I care. Some dim-witted prick split my Colosseum in two yesterday, and I'm not wasting another second doing anything but training for the recalls, got it?'.

His two accomplices nodded. Edward quickened his mechanical stride, making a direct beeline for the Academy.

The fellow student who tapped Edward’s shoulder turned to whisper to his other friend. 'He's in a tight mood today, what d'you reckon he'll do?'.

'Probably take it up with the Arch-Magistrate no doubt...'.

They followed obediently.

Thank you for reading and have beautiful day!
