Short Fiction: Desiree
Hi all!
This week, I don’t exactly have any deep topics to write about, but I have been doing a lot more creative writing in swaths to prepare me for the writing of my second novel. So for now, here’s a small piece of fiction I wrote while looking at one of my beautiful fantasy wallpapers that adorn my laptop slideshow. It is set in my fantasy world from which my novels are based.
Enjoy!

If Red were a town, it would be Desiree. Houses like mushrooms, bloomed down the rolling scarlet hills beneath the gigantic, gnarled tree that hugged the town beneath its wooden arms. Its leaves, either crowned over every branch or blanketing the townscape, gleamed with the same red that burnt the sky overhead, reflecting in the weaving bark of the tree’s towering trunk. The tree curled and snaked with an immense thickness that dwarfed even the largest building it rose above.
As the cool autumn evening crept in, the first few fireflies floated from the forest depths and grazed above the brick-red rooftops like paper lanterns. Peculiar stone arches, thin as beams of a ship’s hull, stood over the major street. They were adorned with gleaming blue stones that struck out from the crimson scene, lighting the way into town with a blue glow of the three moons.
A hazy glow wafted through the air like looking through rose-coloured glasses, and the fresh smell of nectar and honey swept by in a warm breeze.
Standing at the foot of the forests, Marcus and Juniper admired the town of Desiree from its very finest viewing spot. At the treeline before the road dipped before them. The quaint, warm town had received its fair share of visitors from journeys from other lands. However, the day had saved its very best for last, as the sun seemed to have waited to say goodbye to the two Valkyries ere the shining day did end. So then, did their mission begin.
‘Certainly the most beautiful place we’ve been sent to in a while,’ said Juniper with a charming tone. ‘That’s what concerns me,’ said Marcus.
