How I made my upcoming Youtube video.
For the longest time, I have wanted to begin a Youtube channel chartering my writing journey. It would also be a place for me to discuss films, books and stories that I love as well as anything else I want to talk about. So now, after far too long, I’ve put together the draft of what will hopefully be my first video on the channel.
I know that there are many beginning or aspiring writers out there that have gone through the ringer of self-doubt, imposter syndrome and the usual cavalcade of creative struggle that everyone goes through when they pick up writing as a hobby. Having gone well past that stage, I wanted to create a video of encouragement for that lonely crowd at the back. The artists, the dreamers, the world-builders and the bleeders.
At the same time, it’s also been the first time I’ve tried my hand at video making and editing software, so by extension, this was also a new learning experience for me.
It started initially with me fussing over which software met my needs for what I wanted to express, in relation to cost and simplicity.
Da Vinci Resolve was a great place to start looking, but the steep learning curve compared to what I needed were two things that were too far apart. I wasn’t nearly ready to put in the time to try and learn it. This video project has already been delayed well enough for that!
Eventually, I quickly found that Clipchamp was the simple and readily available software that I needed that was sitting right in front of me the whole time! It did the small and necessary stuff like transitions, stills, pans and zooms etc. Plus I already had a good mic and pop filter ready to lend my voice to the project.
As a result, I was a touch unsure if the video I had made was any good or if it would be up to par to garnering any attention.
Yet, once again, after consulting friends who have watched, it appears I am once again selling myself short. I suppose it proves that as long as what you’re saying and presenting is of grand quality, not too much else matters. Neither the bells nor the whistles.
In short, I want this video and others like it to serve as an inspirational push of encouragement for other budding writers who are in the same boat that I was in. In any avenue of writing, it is easy for us to not give ourselves that title of writer. Just as I say in the video, if you never sell any pottery that you make, it doesn’t mean that you’re not a potter. So, in that same sense, I don’t want writers of any form to feel like they aren’t writers just because you’re not published in any way.
Writers write, and if you’re doing that, sometimes that’s enough.
Thank you for reading and have a beautiful day!
